What are the benefits of a healthy diet? Balanced Diet

Just Now

1. Author: Dr Laurence Knott
Published: Sep 16, 2020
2. Carbohydrates. Much of the energy (calories) in what we eat comes from carbohydrate. These are divided into two carbohydrate types: Complex carbohydrates - generally starchy foods such as bread, pasta, rice and potatoes.
3. Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. New research suggests that eating two portions of fruit and at least five portions of vegetables daily reduces the risks of many illnesses, such as stroke, heart disease and some cancers.
4. Eat plenty of fibre. High fibre foods include: Wholegrain breakfast cereals, wholewheat pasta, brown rice, wholegrain bread and oats, barley and rye. Fruits such as berries, pears, melon and oranges.
5. Eat enough milk and dairy foods. Milk and other dairy foods such as cheese and yoghurt are important in your diet, as they provide calcium which is needed for healthy teeth and bones.
6. Eat other protein foods in moderation. Other protein-containing foods include meat, fish, eggs and plant sources of protein. Plant sources of protein include nuts, seeds, tofu, beans such as red kidney beans and canned beans, and pulses such as lentils and chickpeas.
7. Red meat and processed meat. Red meat refers mainly to beef, veal, pork and lamb. Processed meat refers to meat that has been processed to improve the flavour or to help preserve the meat.
8. Fat. For a long time, obesity and many other health problems have been blamed on the amount of fat that we eat. This makes sense because fat contains about twice as many calories as carbohydrate or protein per gram.
9. Don't have too many sugary foods and drinks. Sugary foods and drinks are high in calories and too much may cause weight gain. It isn't just the amount of sugar that may be bad.
10. Don't eat too much salt. Too much salt increases your risk of developing high blood pressure. Guidelines recommend that we should have no more than 6 g of salt per day.
11. Don't forget portion sizes. You may be eating very healthy foods but you still need to keep an eye on your portion sizes because if they are too large, you will still gain weight.

7 Benefits of Eating Healthy and Adopting a WellBalanced

1. Your Heart Health Improves. The World Health Organization estimates over one-third of the deaths worldwide are caused by cardiovascular disease (CVD) — and most of those deaths are preventable with lifestyle modifications, highlighting the importance of a balanced diet.
2. Your Gut Flourishes. If thinking about the bacteria in your gut creeps you out, just imagine them as little helpers working to keep you healthy. The health of your gut has been implicated in everything from obesity, type 2 diabetes and immune health.
3. Your Skin May Improve. The link between diet and skin health is still not completely understood. But what we do know is that changes in nutrition can affect the structure and function of skin, according to the Linus Pauling Institute.
4. You Might Lose Weight. If you're struggling with your weight, your diet is most likely public enemy number one. Reducing calories may not be the best way to lose weight, but changing the nature of the food with the right distribution of macronutrients (carbs, fat and protein) may be more beneficial for weight loss and maintenance, according to June 2017 research in Perspectives on Psychological Science.
5. Your Mood May Lift. The benefits of a balanced diet not only encompass your wellbeing but your mental health, too. In fact, low levels of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B12, folate (vitamnn B9) and vitamin D were all linked with higher levels of depression, per a September 2019 review in Antioxidants.
6. Brain Fog Banishes. The way you eat has a huge influence on your ability to think clearly and remember things (and not just where you put your car keys).
7. You'll Have Balanced Blood Sugar Levels. Reducing simple sugars, increasing fiber and adding protein at every meal are just a few of the many ways to help keep your blood sugar under control via your diet.
