2. Switzerland. This is the first time that Switzerland has reached the top of the list - overtaking its long-standing rival, The Netherlands. Switzerland was the only country to score all 'Green' (in the traffic light system) for Accessibility.
3. The Netherlands. The Netherlands has consistently ranked in the top three of HCP's index since it started in 2005. The country has been in first place for the last 10 years but, this year, scored Red for the two new indicators surrounding mental health: waiting time for paediatric psychiatry and inclination in the trend of suicide rates.
4. Norway. Norway has been slowly rising up the ranks over the years. Traditionally, waiting times have been the healthcare system’s main Achilles heel. While this remains the biggest drag on its ratings, the situation has improved.
5. Denmark. Denmark ranks highly in this list because of its impressive advancement in the reduction of deaths by heart disease in recent years. They have, apparently, a degree of "clinical excellence".
6. Belgium. There is mandatory health insurance in Belgium, which does bring perks like being able to choose your doctor. Typically, you pay the medical fees at your appointment and then you are reimbursed some money, as your health insurance gives you a subsidised health cover.
7. Finland. Finland is one of the best countries in the world to live - and its healthcare is just an added perk. There is a universal healthcare system, mainly funded by taxes, and the country ranks well for good value-for-money healthcare.
8. Luxembourg. Luxembourg has subsidised public healthcare, covered by social security contributions; you do have to pay a fee but you are reimbursed between 80-100% of the fee.
9. Sweden. Sweden has a high rate of clinical excellence, according to the report. The healthcare service is mainly government-funded and decentralised, thus financed by taxes on county councils and municipalities.
10. Austria. Austria scores modestly in its Outcomes rating, meaning its medical services are relatively effective. Clearly, they must be doing something right as their life expectancy is 80.89.
11. Iceland. Iceland ranks highly for its medical outcomes because of its smaller population. The country's healthcare system was built to support a couple of million residents, but it is currently only being used by 300,000 Icelanders.

The 3 Countries With The Best Healthcare System

1. The Canadian healthcare system is a point of pride for many in the Great White North. For good reason. It is available to everybody regardless of ability to pay. Results are very good with outcomes that are favorable which keeps the population healthy. The system is very much like Medicare for All. Doctors are private practices and people can choose whichever physician they like. All services are then billed to the government and paid to the practitioner. The quality of care depends on how urban an area it is as rural areas tend to receive lower-quality care and see longer waits associated with it. Pharmaceutical and dental care rely heavily on private insurance which can bring some expenses to the equation. Moving to Canada? There is no actual “Canadian” system as each province is responsible for its healthcare. To qualify it depends on your residence status. You’ll need to be a resident 153 days out of 183 which means you won’t have insurance upon arrival. Private insuranceis avai...
