1. Wear Red on National Wear Red Day® National Wear Red Day® takes place on the first Friday of February each year as part of the GoRed For Women® campaign developed by the American Heart Association in 2004.
2. Teach Lifesaving CPR. Arrange for the American Red Cross to come to your office, fitness facility, or school for on-site first aid training. Also, keep CPR instructions posted in common areas, like break rooms, so people can have easy access to this life-saving guide.
3. Encourage Healthy Living. Share the facts about healthy eating and heart health. We know that excess belly fat can contribute to high blood pressure and unhealthy blood lipid levels.
4. Get People Moving. Little changes can have a big impact on one’s daily activity levels. In fact, activity as simple as walking briskly for 30 minutes a day can help lower your risk of heart disease.
5. Connect Dental Health with Heart Health. Strange as it sounds, keeping those pearly whites clean and polished might aid in the fight against heart disease.
6. Have a Healthy Heart Day at School or at The Office. Designate one day in February to focus on ways to maintain a heart-healthy lifestyle. Provide healthy foods, such as fruits and vegetables, and invite a nurse or nutritionist to speak about ways to make better choices in the new year.
7. Schedule a Health Screening. Invite a fitness or medical professional into the office to provide free health screenings and offer advice on how to make healthy changes.
8. Create A Heart-Themed Contest. Motivate students and employees to exercise and eat healthy by designing a contest. Have a jump roping, walking or healthy-eating challenge and reward participants with useful and positive gifts like smoothie shakers or gift certificates to healthy restaurants.
9. Create a Stress-Free Zone. Teach your clients, patients, or team the importance of managing stress. How a person manages stress is important; instead of relying on unhealthy methods such as stress-eating or smoking, encourage them to relax by exercising or using a stress ball for a quick time-out.

1. More Green Tea, Please. Some like it hot, some like it cold… No matter how you drink it, green tea contains powerful antioxidants that lower cholesterol and can even lower blood pressure, making it the perfect drink to sip on throughout the day!
2. Fats: Check it Out! When shopping for groceries, be sure to scan the food labels and nutrition facts, to lower saturated fat consumption and avoid trans fats.
3. Fiber First! Studies have shown the more fiber you eat, the less likely you are to have a heart attack. Load up on whole grain breads and cereals that contain whole wheat, wheat bran, and oats.
4. Something Fishy. Fish, such as salmon and anchovies, are loaded with the omega-3 fatty acids that help your heart maintain a steady rhythm. Having even one serving of fish high in omega-3s a week could reduce your risk of death from a heart attack by 52%!
5. Morning Juice. Orange juice contains folic acid that helps lower your levels of homocysteine, an amino acid linked to a higher heart attack risk. Grape juice is loaded with flavonoids and resveratrol, both potent antioxidants that may discourage red blood cells from clumping together and forming an artery-blocking clot.
6. Stop Drinking Your C alories. Cutting out just one sugar-sweetened soda or calorie-laden latte can easily save you 100 or more calories a day. Over a year, that can translate into a 10-pound weight loss.
7. Go Nuts! Studies have found that those who eat more than five ounces of nuts a week are one-third less likely to have either heart disease or a heart attack.
8. Get Moving! You don’t have to sign up for the next triathlon, or train like an Olympian, but just a little over 20 minutes of exercise a day can reduce your risk of a heart attack by 1/3 and help eliminate type 2 diabetes.
9. Start or End Your Day with Stretching. According to a recent Japanese study, stretching for 10 to 15 minutes a day to improve your flexibility will help keep your arteries pliable; as they can be affected by the elasticity of the muscles and tissue that surround them.
10. Count Sheep for a Better Nights’ Sleep. Getting a full 7-8 hours of sleep each night reduces your risk of coronary artery calcification, one of the leading causes of heart disease.

1. Rock the Red for American Heart Month. The official color of heart health awareness is, fittingly, red. In an effort to raise awareness for heart disease in women, the American Heart Association has also started an initiative called Go Red for Women.
2. Do Your Part, Care for Your Heart. American Heart Month isn't just about spreading awareness: it's also about encouraging participants to take care of their own hearts every day.
3. Live Healthy, Stay Young at Heart. No matter one’s age, we can work to keep our hearts youthful. How? As the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says, "you can make your heart younger by making changes that reduce your risk."
4. I'm Going to Pump You Up. - Love, Your Heart. Our hearts do a lot for us. Every single day of our lives, they pump blood throughout our body, which distributes oxygen and nutrients from head to toe, and gives us the energy to face the day (and maybe even some workouts).
5. Be Heart Smart. Being heart smart can mean a lot of different things. According to the University of California Irvine, everyone can benefit from these heart-healthy practices
6. It's Time for a Heart-to-Heart About Heart Health. If you're already well-versed in heart health, it may seem like common knowledge. However, the truth is that most people aren't familiar with important aspects of their own heart health.
7. Healthy Habits Are Your Heart's Desire. When it comes to heart health, there is no one-size-fits-all, "set it and forget it" solution. Instead, a healthy heart comes from lots of little changes that become a habit.
8. Follow Your Heart — American Heart Month. A heart-healthy lifestyle is all about listening to your heart and giving it what it needs to thrive (even if that means ignoring your stomach's request for a second donut).
9. A Healthy Heartbeat Is a Wonderful Treat. All too often, the phrase "heart health" makes us think of inconvenience. With the right mindset, though, a healthy heart is a reward that's well worth some minor lifestyle changes.
10. Join the Fight, Treat Your Heart Right. The fight for heart health awareness truly is just that: a fight. Heart disease is a formidable foe that's responsible for almost 25 percent of all deaths in the U.S., more than any other cause of death.

1. Be Active. Physical activity is one of the best ways to fight off heart disease and other chronic conditions. Any amount of activity is better than nothing; however at least 30 minutes a day is ideal.
2. Maintain a Healthy Diet. Include a variety of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products and lean protein sources (poultry without skin, seafood, processed soy products, nuts, seeds, beans, peas).
3. Aim for a Healthy Weight. Carrying extra weight especially in your mid-section is hard on the heart and can increase risk for diabetes. If you are overweight, losing just 5% to 10% of your starting weight can make a big difference in your blood pressure and blood sugar.
4. Avoid Commercial Tobacco. Smoking increases your risk for heart disease, heart attack and other heart related complications. If you don’t smoke, don’t start.
5. Limit Alcohol Use. If you choose to drink alcohol, limit your intake – one to two drinks a day for men and no more than one a day for women. Alcohol can increase blood pressure.
6. Know Your Numbers. Check cholesterol and triglyceride levels regularly. Monitor blood pressure and get tested for diabetes. Staying informed will allow you to better manage your health and prevent certain health conditions from developing.

2. Promote good nutrition and relevant supplements. While eating well is important for heart health, patients may also benefit from supplements (which tend to be very profitable).
3. Encourage measurable exercise. Your pharmacy can’t compete with a sports store or a high-tech electronics store, but consider stocking and actively promoting products that encourage and measure a person’s activity.
4. Highlight smoking cessation. Smokers who kick the habit reduce their risk of heart disease within a year or two, and reduce their risk of other diseases.
