1. Every person is entitled to quality health support and care. Unfortunately, many underdeveloped nations find it hard to deliver quality health care to their citizens. This problem affects many nations due to various factors such as corruption and brain drain (Mills, 2014). The first outstanding challenge that makes it hard for the countries to deliver quality care is the lack of enough healthcare workers. The number of caregivers and physicians is small. The practitioners are overworked and understaffed. Such issues explain why more people in these nations do not receive quality or timely health services. The second challenge is the lack of adequate resources to support the quality of care. The underdeveloped world grapples with poor leadership and corruption. Consequently, funds are misappropriated thereby making it impossible for many healthcare facilities to function effectively (Mills, 2014). The targeted patients lack medications and timely services. The absence of equipment an...

1. Global health is the understanding of health care in an international and interdisciplinary context. It includes the study, research, and practice of medicine with a focus on improving health and health care equity for populations worldwide. Global health initiatives take into account both medical and non-medical disciplines, such as epidemiology, sociology, economic disparities, public policy, environmental factors, cultural studies, etc. One of the most prominent agencies focused on advancing global health is the World Health Organization (WHO), but this agency is not alone. Researchers and leaders in a variety of fields are spearheading initiatives that form alliances between historically disassociated fields. Dr. Calum Macpherson, vice provost for international program development at St. George's University, describes the The One Health One Medicine Initiative as the convergence of human, animal, and ecosystem health. “Each of these practices are inextricably connected,” Macpher...

These Globalcitizen.org Get All

1. Focusing on health when discussing climate change. The climate crisis not only impacts the environment directly, but it also poses many health risks to people all over the world.
2. Providing health care to nations in crisis. Outbreaks of diseases are very difficult to treat or contain in countries experiencing conflict or crisis.
3. Making health care accessible to everyone. Health care should be accessible to people of all socio-economic backgrounds. As it stands, there is an 18-year discrepancy in life expectancy between people living in rich and poor nations.
4. Expanding access to vaccines and medicine. Nearly one-third of the world’s population doesn’t have access to quality medicine and vaccines, which puts millions of lives in danger.
5. Fighting communicable diseases. Communicable diseases are estimated to kill around 4 million people this year alone, over 28 times the amount of those who died due to vaccine-preventable diseases in 2019.
6. Preparing for epidemics. When it comes to disease outbreaks or epidemics, it is important to stay ahead of the curve, especially when millions of lives are potentially at risk.
7. Making healthy food more accessible. As food insecurity continues to afflict millions, especially in war-torn regions, many are left with either unsafe or unhealthy food options, which directly causes a third of all diseases worldwide.
8. Investing in health care workers. Health workers around the world are often overworked and underpaid, which has led to a worldwide shortage of health care professionals, placing both health care systems and people at risk.
9. Promoting adolescent safety. Nearly 1 million teenagers die from violence, HIV/AIDS, and suicide every year. Providing educators and health care professionals with the necessary tools to educate teenagers about sex, drug use, and mental health can help significantly reduce this number.
10. Strengthening trust between health care systems and the public. Misinformation around medicines and vaccines can be detrimental to public health on a global scale.

Top 15 Nursing Trends That Will Shape Healthcare in 2021

Top Altus-inc.com Get All

1. Self-Care for Nurses. Nurses are trained caregivers, yet they sometimes forget about themselves. Self-care is a deliberate activity that we do to provide for our physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
2. Increased Specialization and Career Path Options. Healthcare needs are becoming increasingly complex. As a result, the scope of specializations that nurses are able to practice is widening.
3. Traveling Nurses. Last year showed us how much our society needs traveling nurses to meet shifting demands. We saw thousands of nurses pour into COVID-19 hot spots to support the surging patient volumes.
4. The Rise of Telemedicine. In 2021, there was a shift in how American’s interacted with healthcare, and that included a massive 20% of medical visits being conducted virtually.
5. Nurses are retiring later. Good for the nursing shortage, bad for limited opportunities mainly to hospital settings. Older nurses tend to stray away from non-hospital environments.
6. Online nursing education programs will become more popular. Because of the demand for nursing, there is high job security in the profession and a high need for further education.
7. Increasing need for nursing educators. The nursing faculty's $20,000-$30,000 pay gapcompared to practicing nurses has led to more nurses practicing rather than teaching.
8. Increasing need for doctoral education programs. With the physician shortage, there is a need for more direct providers. Nurses are entering the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs to fill some of that void and are expected to continue to grow in 2021.
9. Salaries and benefits will need to increase. Because of the global shortage of nurses, employers want to learn what nurses value and what keeps them satisfied.
10. Bilingual nurses will be in more demand. Specifically, in the U.S., bilingualism is becoming increasingly valued. More than 350 languages are spoken across the states.
